The ICONIC rides - French Alps
The most famous ride in France - Alpe d'Huez
'The Alpe' is a truly amazing place, each of the 21 switchbacks will be in your memory forever. The views are simply spectacular, the 13.9 km road with an average gradient of 8%, is smooth as it winds upward through the small village of La Garde, past a beautiful chapel. The road continues to twist through each numbered corner, made famous by Le Tour, until you reach the village of Huez for celebrations, photos and of course coffee.
This ride is supported by me, the lead rider on course for the duration of the ride.
The grand Col du Galibier & Lautaret (from Le Casset)
Col du Galibier is a long climb (34.8km), but with an average gradient of 4%, you can also enjoy the spectacular views, which are renowned as some of the best from a bike. As we climb, we will view the Glacier du Monetier and the mighty La Meije, standing at 3983m elevation. Climbing a total of 1398m, there are some steeper sections toward the end of the climb, and some amazing views. This ride is supported again by me as lead rider on course, as well as vehicle/bike support with food and support to ensure we all get to the top.
An epic - Col de la Croix de Fer
The climb is 32km – average gradient 4%The climb is slightly shorter than Col du Galibier with an average gradient of 4%. We will leave early and arrive at the summit in time for lunch after a couple of stops along the way. The final couple of kilometres of the climb back off allowing you to enjoy the serene environment. We will pass the Barrage de Grand'Maison. Lush green hillsides and amazing views of the Alps make this ride an epic adventure. This ride is supported by me as lead rider on course for the duration of the ride, as well as vehicle support meeting us at various stops with food and support to ensure we all get to the top. This one is a big and unforgettable day!
A bucket list ride - Les Lacets de Montvernier & Col du Chaussy
This adventure is a scenic drive through the Alps towards the Swiss border. You’ll be greeted by 17 switchbacks which all come within 2.5km of cycling. The road is an amazing feat of engineering design, it is very narrow, closed to heavy vehicles and barely visible from the motorway. It's high up on the bucket list for all cyclists. It links the small village of Montvernier to the towns below. We then have one of the best photo opportunities in cycling, from a "secret" clifftop location. This ride is supported again by me as lead rider on course for the duration of the ride and car transfer to the base of the climb.
Again ..... It's not all climbing.....
All of the cycling is around the magnificent French Alps. When not conquering one of the climbs, you can enjoy some time in the village, our non ride day or you can take a rest day any time you like. That is one of the advantages of having a set destination for the week.
We ride in a group, I keep it 'friendly', and stay together as much as we can. (When climbing and descending) But this will challenge you, have no doubt, the French Alps are famous for challenging climbs. However you cannot forget the other things that they are famous for..........
• We will enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery that you can imagine.• I do everything I can to get everyone to the top, I am patient, I am encouraging, and do my best to look after you.• I try to get everyone to “take it in” that is the whole experience, we ride in iconic locations, on some of the worlds most famous cycling roads.
I love company when cycling, I love to chat, to laugh and to make sure you see everything that you can, I simply LOVE France!
